Want to be Happy? Be Grateful.

    • 20/12/2013

The year 2013 seems to have gone by in a flash.

We have had the most spectacular autumn season I remember in over 30 years I have lived in Vancouver.  We have had so many days of wonderful sunny, crisp days perfect for going for around my neighbourhood of Kitsilano.

One of my favorite things to do when I go for a walk around the Kits seawall is the listen to TED talks.  If you aren’t familiar with TED (technology, entertainment and design) talks just google it and you will find the most interesting people talking about the most interesting things that are all on the cutting edge.  I recently listened to a TED talk titled, “Want to be Happy?” Be Grateful by David Steindl a Benedictine Monk.

During his 18 minute talk David was able to clearly remind me that happiness is not something that happens to you when you acquire more things.  It is gratefulness that allows happiness to happen.  Being grateful can happen right now and it is as easy as this: remember to STOP, LOOK and LISTEN to the world at every moment that you can.  Be grateful for the beautiful people and things around us.   It sounds simple, it is and it works.

My gratefulness starts every morning with my wife, daughter and family and continues with admiring the ocean on my short trip to the office.  I am grateful for the incredible people that I work with and the wonderful diversity of the patients of my practice. I learn something from every one of you.

Thank you for entrusting your dental health and smiles to me and my team at WestcoastSmile Dental Studio and Whitening Spa.

Have a grateful and safe holiday season and happy New Year.  See you in 2014.
