Tooth and Gum Recontouring

Why gum recontouring?

Gum recontouring is a safe, conventional procedure that restores healthy gums.

Do you have excess gum tissue or diseased gum tissue from periodontal disease? Do you want to improve the health of your teeth and gums? Gum recontouring, also called a gingivectomy, removes excess or diseased gums for a healthier, happier smile.

Gingival contouring is a cosmetic dentistry technique that removes gum tissue.

This gingival shaping procedure reduces pockets of tissue that trap bacteria and put the health of your teeth and gums at risk. It can remove diseased tissue to help gums heal. Shaping and contouring gums can even bring back the brilliance of a youthful smile.

Gum recontouring is gentle.

Once the area is numb, we use a special instrument to remove excess or diseased gum tissue. Then we shape the gums to a cosmetically pleasing appearance. The gum sculpting procedure takes no more than an hour to complete at Westcoast Smile Dental Studio. Give your gums about two weeks to heal completely.

Gum Recontouring Results

These before-and-after images show a real gum recontouring result from Westcoast Smile Dental. Individual results vary according to gum anatomy, treatment needs and healing. A consultation is used to assess gum health, tooth proportions and whether reshaping is appropriate for your situation.

Our Vancouver cosmetic dentistry case gallery also includes documented treatment plans combining gum recontouring with porcelain veneers or crowns. These examples show how gum contours and tooth proportions can be considered together. They illustrate combined treatment, so the changes should not be attributed to gum recontouring alone.
