It was great to see how the 2015 FIFA World Cup of Women’s Soccer, staged here in BC and Vancouver, could rekindle some of the energy of our 2010 Olympic Games. We watched our gritty Canadian team win their group and play in the quarter-finals. Over 50,000 spectators went crazy at BC place to cheer them on and countless others including myself watching and cheering for the women on TV. How wonderful it is when there is a feeling of community in Vancouver when we come together to cheer on Canada. I spent many years as the Vancouver Canucks dentist and my role as 2010 Ice Hockey Olympic dentist but many aren’t aware that my interest in sports dentistry started on the amateur side.
Just as we ended World Cup 2015, our amateur sports attention now goes to the Pan Am games in Toronto. The captain of the women’s national field hockey team asked me to help their team with sports mouth guards and of course, I was happy to help them out. Our professional dental caring team had great fun taking impressions and making sports mouth guards for these elite young women athletes. We had them made up of red and white guard material; with our Canadian maple leaf in the middle. Field hockey in Canada is certainly not one of our glamour sports, so all the more reason to support these young women in their quest to get to Rio 2016 Olympic summer games. Please give them a shout out of support on their Twitter handles #OurTurfOurTime and #NowOrNever
Custom made sports mouth guards are the only effective way to prevent serious trauma to your teeth during sports activity. Many of the guards that are purchased in the stores are not only poorly fitting, but they are not effective at protecting your teeth. Only a dentist can fabricate a proper fitting custom guard.
You don’t have to be an elite or professional athlete to take proper care of your teeth with a custom mouthguard. WestcoastSmile Dental Studio and our Kitsilano dentists support all athletes young and old and at every level of athletic ability to protect their teeth and gums from trauma.
