What can 3D planning and same-day implant techniques change about your treatment? Understand the options, their limits and the questions to ask before deciding.

A missing tooth can leave you asking two practical questions: how will the replacement look, and how long will treatment take? Modern dental implant technology helps dentists plan around your anatomy and the tooth or teeth being replaced. This guide explains what digital planning, implant materials and immediate treatment approaches can mean for patients in Vancouver and Kitsilano.

At Westcoast Smile Dental Studio, Dr. David Cheng and Dr. Jeffrey Norden both provide implant placement and restoration. Treatment recommendations start with your oral health, available bone and goals.
Explore Dr. Cheng’s published clinical case material and our implant crown gallery for examples of restorative planning. Individual cases do not predict another patient’s result.

The position of an implant matters for the final tooth as well as the surrounding anatomy. Planning may use 3D imaging to assess bone, nerves and sinuses, together with digital records of the teeth and bite. A surgical guide may help transfer a planned position to the procedure. Your dentist decides which records and tools add value in your case; digital planning does not replace clinical judgement or remove surgical risks.
Titanium and zirconia are used in implant systems, while the visible crown or bridge has its own material requirements. Ask which system and restorative design are being recommended, and why. Bone still needs time to integrate with the implant: a digital workflow or a newer material does not mean every patient can finish treatment in weeks. For the wider comparison, read our guide to implant types and materials.
“Same-day dental implants” can describe different steps. Immediate placement puts an implant into the socket when a tooth is extracted. Immediate loading connects replacement teeth that contact the opposing teeth within a week. A temporary restoration can also be kept out of biting contact. These approaches have different requirements; none means that bone healing is complete.
Suitability depends on the site, bone, implant stability and restorative plan. A temporary tooth is also different from the final crown or bridge. Ask what you would leave with, how you would eat during healing, and when the final teeth would be fitted. The International Team for Implantology consensus explains these distinctions.
The useful question is not which clinic advertises the newest technology, but how the proposed treatment addresses your missing teeth. At a consultation, ask what imaging is needed, whether grafting affects the sequence, what temporary teeth are possible and who will place and restore the implant. Our implant patient guide follows the stages through recovery, and our maintenance guide explains ongoing care.
